Warm mediterrenean sea

Day #10 and 11 - boat and konya, turkey

This day was a very, very windy day.

So the morning started off great. We had our breakfast and docked in a nearby village to do some sightseeing and shopping. A very small little island, but peaceful and pleasent. Theres a lady, jill, in our group who is the sweetest, most inquisitive and knowledgeable lady ive met. She and i have something in common which is the love for shopping. Ive been pretty good on this trip, only buying a couple things here or there, but shes cleared out every stop we've been on. This little island was no different. She bought a five hundred dollar bed spread which was hand embroideree by turkish women taking two months to make. Amazing.

The turkish seem to be a very proud country (as they should be)...everywhere i go, i seem to see the turkish flag everywhere.

I think i am getting quite good at these self taken shots. This one was at the docks as i was waiting to get on the boat.

Our next "stop" was the sunken city, an ancient city which was sunken due to a tragic earth quake. Years ago, you used to be able to dive and snorkel there, but nowadays, after being declared a heritage site, you can oly "drive by" on boat ...not even allowed to stop. If you look close enough, you can see the structures under the water.

Tho i guess its quite hard to capture it in photos. You can google better pcis lol.

We then had a few swimming stops. The water was amazingly gorgeous and clear...altho i didnt manage to see many fish...

Did a couple jumps into the water ...took three jumps before chalar was ale to take a pic for me lol....

He thought itd be funny to take a pic of himself and my bum in the bakground. Nice. Lol.

This bit of water was intertesting..when you swam in it, the top couple inches are freezing cold, then the bottom bit is suppper warm. It was a unique sensation...very refreshing.
The sun was super strong all day, so the tanning plan was a sucess. My mom is not going to be happy about my dark skin when i see her :s

The wind started to pick up a but and it got quite rocky...

The sun was setting and it was just about dinner time...gorgeous, yes i know

We had a large variety of food for dinner tonight, but ....my stomach started to turn...

After just a few bites of the delicious food, i had to run to the other side of the boat to hang over the edge, saying goodbye to everything i had eaten that day. This conitinued for a good bit before my the nice captain suggested that i sleep on the nearby beach tonight so that i am on solid groud. At this point, i was willing to take anything that was off the boat.

So i got my blankets, my ipad and my ipod, hopped onthe dingy with the second in command and headed for the beach. It was only after he left did i realize how scary it is to be on a beach by yourself, in the dark surrounded by bugs. I dont think i slept much that night...if at all, too freaked out there were creepy crawlies around.

Day #11 - konya
At six am, the second in command came back to pick me up and i headed back on boat. Our final destination to leave the coast was only twenty mintues away, so i surived.

After a mini bus, a bus and another mini bus, we reached our central turkey city of konya. Konya might as well have been a different country from th cities of the aegean coast since it was different in every which way possible. Women on the coast sported bikinis and dark tans, where as women in konya were paler and covered from head to toe. Konya is thr mosconservative city in turkey.

It has several mosques and people there are very devoute.

Similar to our bursa night, we had dinner in a local place with a rooftop seating area and broke the fast with everyone else. I had a delicious lamb kebap...

Unfortunately for me, my sea sickness still lingered and i felt incredibly nauseus right after i finished eating it. I ended up rushing back to the hotel to say bye to my dinner. Again. Gross.

On the way tho, i managed ot at least get onepic of koya....

Its amazing how different a single country can be in its culture and its people. In this trip, we were definitely able to see the two extremes very well. Tour of konya tomorow morning, then off to capadoccia!

Location:Aegean coast
